I am surprised no has posted on this, but for the past few days the server lag has been horrible. Not sure if it needs another reset or what, but thought one of the admins should know.

It has been posted elsewhere.
Lou reset the server even. Still laggy.
I suspect some of our newer players might have overrides.
Also, could be people without SoZ encountering Yuan Ti or Gray Orcs. Not sure if that causes lag, but it can't be good.

I suspect the root cause is the size of Beldar's character vault.

Sadly, I think Siege may have passed me. I have been playing elsewhere some.

Hmm Wett may actualy have more than Seige. But i would still wager that both of um combined still dont have as many as Beldar ;D But i do think the crashing and freeze-ups have to do with overides and some sort of client side files. Gotta say it does not seem to act up till some of the newer players log on. But that is just my unscientific observations.

Hopefully it isn't me (being a relatively new player on the PW)... but I've checked both override folders and they are empty. I even checked my UI folders just in case.
Can there be other reasons for the lag. For instance, can latency issues originating from a player's connection cause the server to lag badly?

IDK. But it is even worse today. I can't even play the server I lag/crash every 5 minutes.

No idea what's going on. After the server was reset before, only me and Beldar were on and it still lagged. I've been getting errors for a while now that makes my screen go black and crash the game with an error message - no idea if it's at all related or just something on my end. I got the same problem once, earleir today while in a single player campaign, so maybe it's me on that problem. I just took this picture after I "tried" to lvl to 23 a few minutes ago. After I was done leveling I returned to a frozen server with everyone kicked but me and another player, while I get a message in my event log that "Someone has attackaked" this other player, only, as you can see, they are not in pog with me. I think we've been seeing this "someone has attacked such and such" lately? Again, dunno if it's related at all or what. So, anyhow, after I leveled it didn't "take" and I was still lvl 22, according to the character sheet, as I crashed again. You can see how the server keeps dropping people too, in the log there. And, pfft, no one has more characters than me!

Hello i am new to the server and i ahve seen nothing but lag since i started, this being said it looks like i am the problem not sure what it is though. I did have an override problem for one night as i tried a new pw that was heavily overridden(sp?) but as i could not play my toon here with the overrides my class did not exist i never logged in with those overrides. the folders are empty now is there somewhere besides overrides that might be affected by another pw on this server? if so i would gladly delete it this is a good server and I am enjoying it, i dont want to if it precludes other from enjoying though! Please advise, I play on the account Farriss and my toons name is Rithyon

I saw the "Someone attacks ..." problem yesterday for the first time. I was in Enchanted Lands. Everything was normal at first. After a short period of time, all of the goblins and occulus disappeared. My character was attacked by a few of them and killed them (at least I got xp like I was killing them), but I could not see them at all. Siege zoned in shortly after I started having problems and he could see the baddies. I relogged and the problem was resolved.
I wonder if the server might be having memory errors? It doesn't seem to be crashing so I doubt this is the case.
Another possibility might be multiple people logging in from behind the same router. We saw some strange behavior from that in the past.
When I have been on alone lately, the server has seemed pretty normal. Only occasional lag bursts... When Lou reset the server the other day, the problems returned almost immediately.
I don't have any good theories - maybe some tables are slightly misaligned?

Rep and I had the same problem awhile ago in the BF, one of us could see the mobs but the other couldn't! It was better a day or 2 later tho.
I don't have this going on, but why can't two people play from the same connection?

You have to set your NWN2 ports to different numbers in order to plan from the same connection.

My connection has been pretty bad the last few days. I've been dropped from the internet once or twice where I had to power-cycle the modem and reset the server. I've also been generating more internet traffic than usual.
Not sure if it's a general problem, a connection problem or a player problem. The server itself and the module are unchanged.

Even if you set your ports to different numbers, I have empirically observed problems. I am not sure why. The network programming for this setup is not that complicated. It does require some extra knowledge on the part of the players.
Basically, here is how it should work:
Private network....................................................................................Internet .................................................................................................(fictional IP as example)
..........................................................+-------------------+ ..........................................................|.......Router............| PC1: IP Address 192.168.1.1:5121 <-----> | address translation | <----> 10.10.1.27:5121 PC2: IP Address 192.168.1.2:5122 <-----> | address translation | <----> 10.10.1.27:5122 ..........................................................|...........................| ..........................................................+-------------------+
To force the PCs to use different ports (the number after the colon), you have to use the direct connect and enter the port manually. Not all servers allow direct connect. Some firewalls are not configured to forward the ports correctly.
Really, nwn2 should have had another protocol layer added to negotiate the port. The server could receive an open request from the client and check if it already had an open session from that client (probably distinguishing individual clients based on some unique number like the client PC MAC address). It could then send back a message informing the client which port it should use. The users wouldn't need to know anything about this except to configure the proper port range to pass through their firewalls. Sadly, it doesn't work this way, and I have all too often seen problems when multiple players logon from behind the same router. The problems result from messages from one PC being perceived as coming from the other PC. I know that it can confuse the server enough to impact other players who aren't part of the port confusion.
I don't know if this situation is the problem we are seeing, but it would not surprise me if it is.
