I spent time adding in the appearance changer and including the lineage models for it. It works, but I'm beginning to wonder how good an idea it is. Right now, characters have a very general look with special items having the non-average look. Adding this in, removes that benefit from special item drops since everything can look fantastic. It just seems to make "special" stuff less special. I'm still willing to put it in, but I'm not really digging on it anymore (still the lineage models are truly awesome)

Have item drops from bosses that allow a single customization choice from the appearance changer? That way it's not common, is still controlled, and allows special looks to distinguish players as a reward. That way it takes a few "drops" to fully customize a single look.

I thought of this, but when I asked the players how they wanted the appearance changer implemented, they all pretty much want unfettered access.

I play on another world (should I be admitting this lack of loyalty?) that has the appearance changer. I really enjoy it. My feeling is that the special items are special because of their properties not their appearance. As it stands now, I have some rather powerful characters that look pretty boring. The ability to diversify the appearance adds life to the world. You can recognize characters by their appearance. Red Wizards can wear red.
Currently, it seems like we have a collection of uniforms: you either wear the single wing, a monk robe, or one of the wizard robes. I suppose a few people wear the Bezibilla carapace for a while.
Plus, the appearance changer can let some of the people in monk robes stop looking like comic book superheroes from the '40s (especially true if you wear them with the Bezibilla helmet).

Let us have a gold sink then. Let us spend gold on it. And only have this option accessible at certain places. Like the Dwarven armor smith for armor, the weapon smith for weapons, the fletchers of bows, etc...

I play on another world (should I be admitting this lack of loyalty?) It's no secret that I've been remiss in adding new content in the world. I don't blame people for jumping ship. As it stands the Appearance changer is going in, just sayin' it seems to cheapn special items (however, you can bet your ass I'll be the first person using it)

Saddam had gold sinks. Look what happened to him.
I don't feel the appearance changer cheapens anything. I'm too busy enjoying it, and the item properties. If you want to lock certain items down to a certain look, I guess that's fine. But, sooner or later someone may complain.
Wouldn't the experience be cheaper if everybody had the same items?
