There's been some comments that the death penalty (50*level debt) is a little too light. Truth be told it was implemented before the XP rate was ratcheted up so I tend to agree. I've got two ideas in mind.
The first is a straight 100 * level which is a linear increase in number of kills required to make up the xp as you level
The second is a formula that makes it easy to recover in the early levels and much more difficult later on. The formula would be level^2 (squared) * 20 (i.e. 20 at level 1, 80 at level 2, 500 at level 5, 2000 at level 10 and 8000 at level 20.
If that's two harsh we could also do level^2 * 10 which would halve the above debts.
If you have an opinion, lets hear it

how about a prompt to the likes of “would you like to endure xp debt?” and I don’t want to then don’t make me

Seriously, why not? After all this seems to be an open discussion (you opened it for discussion when you said “If you have an opinion, lets hear it” ).
What is the actual reason to impose this penalty? Me being a higher level for the same amount of game play time should have little if any impact on other players with whom I share the world. (this might be a personal thing but) there’s nothing more annoying than dieing for a dumb reason ( kid cries, wife pregnant doges, not paying attention, or just being stupid) When you die because I fought a mob, was low on life and “gambled” by staying and died I might elect to take the penalty (depending on what kind of player I am).

Seriously, why not? After all this seems to be an open discussion (you opened it for discussion when you said “If you have an opinion, lets hear it” ). My apologies, I thought you were a friend of mine making a joke. Well, technically it's not a penalty. You don't lose anything, you just incur debt. The reason to put some "sting" in death to make combat a little more exciting. If you stand to lose nothing then I think combat quickly loses it's flavor. By incurring debt it makes death something desireable to avoid. I'm not saying it would. However, wouldn't the game cease to be fun? We could just not stop there. Why not have the option to instantly heal to full on death and keep on fighting? Well, a player has the opportunity to get the "recall" ability at level 1. So one should be able to recall out to saftey at any time. However, your point is taken. My personal experience is that "optional" consequences of death result in pretty much none. We're not talking about any penalty here. You don't lose any XP, abilities or anything like that. You're put into debt that must be paid off before you gain more XP. (it doesn't affect loot or anything like that and current reports seem to indicate the debt is paid off rather quickly) Your point about stupid death is taken though. How about a compromise. I can provide a "debt pay off" ability, but I don't think it would be wise to let it be used whenever, but perhaps once per server reset or once per game day or something like that. Or perhaps we can have it obtainable as the result of a generic, simple quest so that you can bank some "insurance" of a sort.

I find the death penalty acceptiable right now, as I still try to avoid it. Since the xp is going the way it is, it does seem like it will be harder to recover as you get higher in level, which I can expect, however you are also goinng up against harder things so in all reality the difficulty is about the same as lower level, IMO. I think the straigh 100xp X lvl would be suffcient.
