Been grinding away and finally have the stuff i need to craft my first +1 Duskwood longbow! Along the way I have learned a handy trick: Taking the easy quest from the Bowyer (lvl 3-5) will get you Shederran planks Taking the easy (3-5) quest from the leathersmith will get you duskwood planks. So it goes faster if you're farming for duskwood to take ONLY the quest from the leatherworker in the Fletcher shop, that way all the sticks you collect will be for duskwood and you won't need to pick up stuff you don't want. Realistically this will probably only save you a couple of minutes each time, but that helps!

1) Both the bowyer and leatherworker give the same rewards. The rewards differ depending on the level of the quest you take (it's the same with the blacksmith and armor smith as well as the priest and the mage). In some cases there are multiple possible rewards for a level of quest and it's random which one you get.
2) You should always (at low levels) Take *both* quests. The sticks (any collectible really) are gained independent of each other. Each quest in your journal is 100% independent of any other (i.e. a single kill can collect items for every entry in the journal)
3) The junk that the critters actually drop (as in actual loot) in those low level areas can be turned into the quartermaster for a bit of xp and loot (only worth it if you have a high str character that can haul all that stuff around)

I've noticed that when I'm completing both stick quests at once that my quest journal constantly changes the number of sticks I have for each quest, like it's always trying to balance the two of them evenly. Sometimes I'll check the quest journal and have 10 of one stick and 4 of the other, then next time I check it I'll have 6 and 8 and so on.
As to your points above, it's totally random as to which reward you receive for each of those quests? For example could the weaponsmith give mithral and the armoursmith give darksteel?
Cheers, Lint

That should not be the case nor I have ever witnessed that being the case (and I've played through those quests more times than I can count) and considering I coded the entire server, I can assure you there is no code to do that so it's super weird that that is happening. I did make a optimizations to the journal fairly recently that I didn't heavily test so there may be a display bug involved. Yes, it is random for each. If you turn in the quest to both weapon and armorsmith You could get 2 darksteel, 2 mithral, or one of each. Same with the mage and priest, the essence that you get is random. Of course not every quest has multiple rewards, at the first level of the quest line the armor smith and weaponsmith will both give only iron for example

I figured out what is happening with the quest shuffling thing. It's whichever quest got its material most recently goes to the top. So the top quest is constantly switching, not how much each quest has! My bad

I know it's transparent to the player, but the journal coding I did for the server is pretty insane. The journals are entirely constructed from the same quest data I use to track the quests. So all of the journal entries defined on the server or just 6 override strings and 6 override titles. Whenever you finish, get, update a quest it just overrides then entry for you and updates the journal.
Anyway, that's why the standard quests can shuffle around a bit. I think achievement quests stay on the top though.
