With 1.38 I will be introducing a number of new feats and in particular the series of Practical Metamagics. They reduce the cost by 1 level of applying a metamagic to a spell (just like the ASoC ability, who now gets 3 of them for free).
As a balance concern should I disabled (by default) the Still, Silent, and Extend spell feats? In PnP you technically can't reduce it below +1 but I'm leaning on letting it go with +0. It's probably the biggest boost I'll ever add for Arcanes. So by taking two feats (extend and practical meta - extend) you will be able to extend spells at no cost. The reasoning behind this is that most good buffs are low level and the higher level slots are really needed for offensive spells. If you can focus on better spells at the middle to top you should "fix" arcanes without having to add incredibly OP spells. This could also allow IGMS, etc to be reduced in power without killing arcanes completely.
I'm finished with 1.38 but I'd like a little guidance before I kick it off. If it seems I should delay I'll go ahead and publish the SP packages and wait on the MP version.
So... Thoughts?

For MP, I don't think it matters much as each PW is responsible for their own cmi_options file. Also, imagine if some PWs disagree with each other. Who will you favor? It's not an open vote. I would wash my hands of this by defaulting it to PnP settings in the cmi_options file.

I would have to agree with NTB and leave it as it's default PnP setting.
From there PW will use it as they see fit.

So theoretically this would let you persist spells up to level 6 then? Are there any spells that are actually persistable (spells.2da ??) above level 3?

Dordon brings up a good point. But I think he misreads the OP. It would just reduce by 1 level the cost of meta-magic so persisting a spell would cost +5 levels instead of +6. Level 4 rather than 6 might be persistable with this feat, if my understanding is correct. (Perhaps the same practical meta-magic feat could be taken repeatedly with the effect stacking?)
If the list of spells that can be persisted, remains the same I don't think this would be a problem. If the feat is available for divine spells also (I suspect that it probably would be), then I would be a little concerned if the list of persistable spells included divine power.
I would probably prefer that the default option be having Still, Silent, and Extend enabled.
Aside: its always nice to see a post like this from Kaedrin - it means even more excellent content is in the oven.
