While i was playing around on some other pw's trying to waste my time. I wont give the names of these servers because i am going to %^%# all over them.
OK so on this one PW I was on. I rolled up a dwarven fighter not sure what he was gonna do. I started out level 1 no gear except scale mail. No gold. this is not unusual for a low magic server as this must be. I go through the rigmarole (sp?) and find a quest to kill a big bug. so off i go no weapons to kill the bug. I immediately get totally lost and end up 3 zones out with no npc's no chests for that matter no placeable at all just endless halls. I find my way back and get to the "bug level". In-front of me is a small bug. the small bug kills me i respawn (no penalty, good i have nothing) I go back to the bug and kill it! 2 exp.... He drops LOOT! a beetle gland. This is not the bug i came to kill this is one of the myriad bugs in the level. I manage to kill 4 bugs 8 exp... and decide that if i am going to die twice for 4 bug kills i better go sell these bug parts for some gold and buy a weapon. 45 minutes later i find the "bug parts collector" , he buys the bug parts for 8 gold per, and gives me 8 exp per. I take my hard fought for gains and talk to the seller of goods. There are +5 to everything items here, items costing in excess of 50k gold. so for about 7k kills of said bugs i could afford a weapon. I have not been back.

You probably have to RP a sword from a DM. I hate those worlds. I tried one with similarly low XP, rest restrictions, and a "custom" xp table that required 10x xp to gain a level as the normal game requires. I hope it died. Does that make me a bad person?

One of the most common complaints you see aout new players and PWs is that they're dropped in the middle of the world and left to their devices with no clue where to go or what to do.
Part of my problem is that I wanted a sort of "dropped in the world with nothing and make your way" feel. To help the new player I created the New player's guide that covered the basics and created that intro quest that sends you around. (also put mappins in the map).

Sounds like one of Ernie's servers. Quick! Let's hack it up!
Yeah, it's like playing Mork From Ork without the skinny girlfriend. It doesn't even rise to the level of suck.

I was alt-tab'n my fingers off when i first got here with that new players guide. Worked like a charm it was days before i had a question that i had to shout. : 0 so my next Pw i hit just tonite... Your basic "we role-play, you don't have to but don't be hatin'" So i have my first quest a cat in a tree So off i go to the "weapon" store. Before i get there naturaly i go past the belt, gloves, hat stores. Why have that many merchants? well it turns out this is another of those holly crap i can buy +5 stuff worlds. Fine no prob. Right i get to the weapon store and pass some "HORRIBLE" rp'ers. "Thou hath a lovely pair of eye mi'lady" :::GAGS:::: right i go into the store and buy a cold iron ls for like 800g ( i started with 1500, and the plate-mail was 3k) I equip my ls and start off for the Shield store, where the hell is it there are elventy-billion mappins. Maybe over there. then i get: "you there" HALT I immediately stop there might be some sweet npc script or something. I SAY YOU THERE HALT ( looking around i see its a PC and i %^% you not his name was like "yuthay nardingfarthiljukniwitz" i keep going. SHEATH YOUR BLADE i keep going, now mind you i have no idea where to get my shield but i need one and i am going to buy one PUT YOUR BLADE AWAY hmmm mebe over here by the belt store PUT YOUR BLADE AWAY the dude is following me every step i take PUT YOUR BLADE AWAY. I log out its rough out there i tell ya

You could have put it away in between his ears? I think that's forgotten realms. I didn't have that problem. It's just that I didn't want to RP at all. Makes my fingers cramp. Sometimes you have to wait hours for those RP types to finally group up for some monster squashing XP. I did get attacked by a level 1 suicidal drow. They had those there.

It would have been funnier if you had stayed on and let him follow you around for like an hour until he contacted a DM and when the DM asked you why you didn't respond you could say: "I didn't hear a please"

"I was RP'ing a deaf character." Solves a lot of problems. Put it in your character description so that they see it if they right click on you.

As much as I like lite RP in my pen and paper games, I generally find RP heavy servers to be a chore to play at best. Can never really get into them. I'm guessing I find it hard to roleplay with strangers (you never know if your RP gonna insult someone personally). Plus even in my pen and paper games, all my RP tends to be towards the goofy silly side and we could never stay in character for too long before bursting into laughter.
I recall reading a NPC background (the usual right-click examine) in one FR server, and found myself gagging when the description started with the NPC's "smooth and silky" long dark hair... ;-)

Beldar and I decided it would be safer to roleplay a blind/deaf/mute - Here's my new mage, Helen Keller! And then the DM would require we take Blindfight and Silent Spell. ;D And Kieron keeps moving all of the buildings!
