As a half-breed, ya normally don’t get much good attention, even if you are a Cleric, and even Dragons seem to treat ya the same way it appears... sorta. Here's me tale of my meeting with a Black Dragon.
Whilst trying to get from Lands End to East Barrens to set up my Bind Point there, rumors started spreading that something was about to happen. But no one seemed to know what exactly what that something was, so I determined to keep a wary eye out. All went good, till I tried to cut across the Battlefield from the Upper Outpost, and observed a major battle in progress. Being a bit prudent, I decided to get to the Barrens by way of the Wrath Mountains, hey what’s a few Giants any way? Well after getting over the first set of Mountains, I was deep in thought on a few new Clerical abilities I had just recently acquired, and was not paying much attention to my navigation. So I ended up circling around the whole Mountain range just to get to the pass to the West Barrens. As I was just starting to enter one of the passes on the southern middle range, I heard a bit of a commotion behind me, and turned with a start and a realization I had not been keeping as sharp an eye out as I had should been. Well now, there before me was a Giant,.... and a Mature looking Black Dragon. After a quick glance at me, the Dragy turned and looked at the giant and said "Yummmm". Now, know ye that I got a bad habit of talking to myself, comes from being a half-breed and haveing no one else to talk to. So I suposed I mumbled out something like "this should be interesting". But it wasn't, poor Giant was dinner in a heartbeat or two. And as the Dragy turned to me, I guess I mighta said something like "I hope I aint around when it comes out the other end". About that time the Dragy turns full at me and queries " Are you talking to me?". At this point I realize I may be his "desert", since I know I gotta taste sweeter than that Giant, and I start burbling out something about just talking to myself, and how that’s a bad habit I got. I somehow don't think the Dragy cared. The 'ole Dragy starts to asking what I could do to amuse Him to keep him from making me his next "snack" since I had dared talk to him without being asked to. I offered to get him a week’s worth of Giants meals in short order if he would let me enter The Giant's Home. Guess he figured he could do that himself, cause he offered to riddle me. So the offer was a riddle contest, or die. Not being much good at riddles, I figured it was suicide either way. And what little I knew of Dragons, I was thinking I was gonna fight him either way. But I figured, what the hay give it a shot, this might one of those few fabled "nice" Dragys. Well he gave me his riddle, was something about roads, forest and cites with no carts, trees or buildings. Had no clue, but sounded like some of the maps I had seen of this land, so I answered "maps". I'm not sure who was more surprised, the Dragy or me. And the worst part was I almost broke out in laughter at my surprise I got it right. Maybe that’s why the Dragy decided all I had done was earn the right to fight him any way. Well so much for a "nice" Dragy. But at least he gave me a moment to relax and say my prayers first. So after my offerings, started calling out all my blessings,... and then got to it. Not much to say of the fight, other than at first, and for a long time, neither one of us could hurt each other. But the poor Giants, who apparently could not stay away, ended up as just more compost for the ground. Eventually each of our spells, prayers and blessings started fading, mine first of course. But I did happen to have a few heal kits available, so it wasn't too bad. Eventually my Mace started connecting once some of his spells started slipping and I started tenderizing him a bit. And just the time I thought he was really getting pulverized..., he runs off and says "Enuff !!!". Humph. Well, he does manage to convince me that discretion was the better part of pride, so to speak, and I agree to call it even. He did decide to give me a nice shiny shield with some nice elemental damage reductions, so maybe he aint so bad after all. But I wouldn't advise any of yall to really trust him if ya happen to meet up with him some day. And I gotta feeling we will be seeing more of him.
